Times are tough, but successful money management means going beyond thoughts of scarcity. Families on a budget can still have loads of fun by thinking outside the box. Here are some tips to get you going:

  • Spend only what you have. That means you might have to save up for that trip to the Grand Canyon. A prepaid debit card is great because you can place the money you have saved on the card. Then, when you take that trip, the money is there for your use, and you don’t have to carry cash.
  • Think of ways to have fun that cost you less. When was the last time you attended an outdoor concert or had fun swimming at the neighborhood pool? Taking a hike in the mountains or walking along the beach are great ways to spend the day.
  • Don’t be afraid to save. With saving comes opportunity for fun without having to think later about the debt accumulated from the experience.
  • Do some trading. What services can you offer another family in exchange for something your family wants to do? Does your neighbor have a boat? Ask about trading a day with your four wheeler for a day on their boat.

Saving money means you might have to think more creatively, but in the end you’ll find yourself not missing much of what you used to consider the “grand” vacationing experience. You may even find that the simple things in life give your family more pleasure and longer lasting memories.

Family Life and Debt

There are many obstacles to overcome in order to have a successful family life and overwhelming debt can be one of the most stressful areas to try to work on. Not only are money conversations one of the biggest causes of arguments, but debt is sometimes a dealbreaker due to the stress and worry over paying bills that you can’t afford. There are a few ways to lessen the burden and have a happier lifestyle.

One of the ways you can work on lessening the heavy load is to consider a debt consolidation service. Sometimes paying one bill can be much easier than paying a ton of small ones and it helps stop the phone calls and letters.

Another thing to consider is to form a budget to see exactly where your money is going each month. You may not think about the small things that you buy but let’s say you get coffee for two people every day at a major chain. That can cost around $10 per day and adding that up for the month could very well pay a car payment or utility bill. Sometimes seeing where your money is going can be helpful in getting on the right track in order to become more debt free.

The most important aspect is to communicate with your family. It can be tough to tell your children they can’t have that new video game or join the soccer team this season, but sometimes it is necessary to cut corners and the things that aren’t a necessity can be eliminated first.

It is making a committment to a better life that can put you on the right track and it starts by cutting corners and looking at what is a necessity and what is a luxury. Leave room for a few luxuries but take a look at the end goal.

Big families are always a lot of fun, but they can be the cause of a lot of financial stress too. With bigger families, there are more mouths to feed and more bodies to clothe. It can be stressful stretching your dollars to accommodate the needs of everyone. That is why it’s important to save money every place you can so there is enough money to go around. Here are a few tips to help you save money.

Be Wise at the Grocery Store

A major place where you can save money is at the grocery store. Clip coupons from your local paper and print discount offers off of the Internet. Also, be smart when you are shopping by paying attention to prices and buying more fruits and vegetables than prepackaged foods, as they are healthier and less expensive.

Combine Insurance Packages

Oftentimes, insurance companies are willing to give you a better rate if you purchase multiple policies from them, like combining home and auto insurance. When you have teenagers, car insurance is very expensive, so discount car insurance will go a long way in saving you money.

Teach Kids the Value of Work

There is no reason for your children to assume you are financially responsible for all of the little activities they want to be involved in and the fun things they want to buy. If you teach your children the value of work, they will be able to purchase some of the extra items they want on their own and help your pocketbook stay fuller.

There are plenty of other ways you can save money, but these are a few to get you started. Having a big family is worth all of the aggravation.  You just have to learn how to spend your money more wisely so everyone can have the things they need.
